does anyone remember the brouhaha over lecithin in candies and other food items?
i remember one sister writing to all the manufacturers of these products to inquire whether or not the lecithin was from a blood source.
there were even lists of products to avoid that were circulated in the congregation.
I remember Nestle Energy chocolate being high in Lecithin concentration and we wern't allowed to eat it cos
it was 'made from blood'. Why didn't they research these things first before cloaking them as unscriptual.
I believe only one of 12 things I hear.
its says in many charity commission bits that jw congregation have submitted that they provide care and counselling.. what types is that?.
Oh they counsel alright. Several years ago, when hubby and I were going through financial strife, a friend contacted a local church group
who delivered to us a food parcel. It happened to be the same evening a local elder was making his yearly visit. He wasn't impressed and
scolded us severly for accepting help from Babylon the Great. Yet they did nothing to help. This week we have had to again rely on B the G
to dispense our food at the proper time. I have had enough of their careless attitude towards others who are supposed to be part of their flock.
Last week at the Uni orentation display, the bro's had a tent and were getting rid of bibles and books to the students. A couple, whom we
have known for many years were there getting their 'pioneer hours' in, and stopped to chat with me as I passed by. They are from another cong
and happened to mention that they had visited our cong the previous week, where a sister had asked after us. I thought 'THE CHEEK!'
What is wrong with her phoning me or calling in when they are out in our part of the territory for field service. They don't call in at all. A neighbour 500 m
down the road had some JW's call in on her several weeks ago and she said to them, "I know someone out here who would really appreciate a visit from you."
They sat upright with excitement on their faces until she told them our names, and then they just said "oh". They never showed up. I don't think
they give a s**t!
we all talk about our negative experiences with the jws and no doubt most were negative but weren't there any positive experiences with some of the few decent jws around?
i recall an old jw who was of the anointed and who was very benign, knowledgable, supportive and opposed to much that the dubs were doing especially the lack of love among the congregations.
also another very good natured dub who would always reward me whenever i gave him a little help with his business.
I found some true (yet conditional) friends there that helped me through my troubled teenage years and now when
I think of them I smile fondly at their memory. I feel a great sense of relief for the ones who have passed on and great
sadness for those still in the Org. But the best experience with the JWs would have to be meeting my hubby, introduced
by a mutual elder friend, two weeks later he asked me to marry him and I said yes. We are in our 24th year of wedded
bliss.
i recently wrote an email to my pastor and let him know of my story and journey up until this point.. he thanked me for blessing him with my story and had stated that he was praying for me and my situation and my 3 children.
he was very encouraging, positive, and loving.
after getting his quick response, i received another email from him stating that he had just received an email from another ex jw and how similar her story was to mine.
Good on you Esw1966. :-) I am extremely jealous of your experience. I have never had that experience before, not
even at the KH.I remember once attending a meeting with 5 kiddies ranging from newborn to 8years of age and
being in tears because Hubby was at home sick (mentally and spiritually) and trying to juggle these children and
keep them quiet. Nobody came over to help, they all seemed to look when the kids made a noise. I lasted about
10 minutes then I packed them all up and left. Again nobody followed me out to see if there was anything wrong.
The kids and I went and sat down at the beach for 2 hours until the meeting was over so I could go home. If I had told
hubby what had happened it wouldn't have helped him. One of 12.
the first thing i can remember from my jw studies is having the (no) blood policy explained to me; the brother liberally quoted from the ot and then from the nt when i complained that mosaic law did not apply to christians.
he also reminded me that "all scripture is beneficial" (forget which book that's from).
a quote that i must have heard a hundred times if i've heard it once is from leviticus.
I have been a baptized witless since I was 13 years old. I wanted to study midwifery since then but my mother
wouldn't let me because of the blood issue. I am now 42 and am entering my first year of a three year bachelor
on Midwifery degree. I have no issues with blood. Five weeks ago my daughter delivered her second baby, a
9lb 12oz son, and lost a heap of blood on the operating table post ceasearian, and her father and I offered to
the hospital our blood, if needed, for our daughter. It ended up she didn't need it but at least her Dad and I are
'clean' and related with no risk of tainting. I have not associated with the local cong. for at least 7 years, but a
good point Scully that it okay for some but discouraged for others.

What I remember is from the Green copy of the New World translation ( and maybe only this copy), at 1 Corinthians 11:5. If you read across the top line on this page, both coloumns it says,
"All things are lawful but not a woman with a shaved head"
This used to crack me up. I don't have an english copy of that anymore to show the kids.

September is truely spring down here in the lower half of the South Island, New Zealand. Our 1 acre of Daffodils are just opening, We have cool nights, great for cuddling up, and brill days. We have also been known to have the odd spring snowfalls. Kids are off school in the middle of Sept. and quite often over the last 15 years that wev'e been down this neck of the world, we have had a good couple of days playing with the kids in the snow. Cooler nights, warm days. We have lots of good rivers for fly fishing, nothing more than an hour or two from home. Scenery is well worth a trip on its own. Jennine

lisa and bart overloaded the power supply and the power plant and blew all the light bulbs in time for everyone to see the meteor shower.
homer, marge, lisa and maggie are all sitting outside watching the show up in the sky and homer casually says "i wish god was alive to see that!".
Hubby and I were sitting watching Simpsons this morning, the episode where all the lights were really bright to keep the crime at bay.
